William Earl "Bill" Ackerly, 85, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away Nov. 27, 2011, at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage, TN. Funeral services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home Nov. 30, with the Rev. Will Wells officiating. Full military honors were provided by the Veterans Honor Guard with the Crossville Fire Department serving as casket guards. He was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Bronx, NY, the son of Harry and Virginia (Vanwert) Ackerly. Mr. Ackerly was retired from Hialeah Fire Department in Hialeah, FL, and was of the Methodist faith. He graduated from Champlain College in Champlain, NY. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Maryann (Vallarelli) Ackerly of Fairfield Glade, TN; daughter, Penny Ackerly of Pompano Beach, FL; stepsons, Clifford Wheelock of McKenzie, TN, and Scott Wheelock of Palm Desert, CA; stepdaughter, Lauren Phillips of Fairfield Glade, TN; brother, Gary Ackerly of Connecticut; and sisters, Barbara Brosnan of Vermont and Shirley Soss of New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Virginia (Vanwert) Ackerly; and stepmother, Margery (Lewis) Ackerly. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc.
