Fairfield Glade, TN - Sue was born in Whittier, CA, and raised in Southern California. She often reflected on her incredible privilege of growing up on the California beaches in the surfing sixties.
She was a California surfer girl. She soaked up the sunshine that radiated from her smile. Susan lit up a room when she walked in, her radiant smile illuminating her presence.
Once you met her, you seemed to have known her for life. She put you at ease.
Susan was a true entrepreneur, founding two successful retail gift shops in Fairfield Glade, Brownstones, and Collage. Her shops were more than just places to buy gifts; they were havens where customers could share their life events. Her love for her customers went beyond the sale of an item.
After selling those businesses and retiring, she then created a very successful E-Commerce business.
Susan was a true community leader, deeply civic-minded. She spearheaded the initiative for package liquor sales for Cumberland County, TN, and her efforts bore fruit. The measure passed, and the sales tax proceeds are now directly benefiting the school system.
Sue had a special love for the Ladies Club of Fairfield Glade and Hospice of Cumberland County.
Susan's love for her grandchildren was boundless. She followed their collegiate events, offering support when needed and advice when asked, always ready to share in their joys and sorrows.
The primary goal that she had while battling kidney disease was to get back on the golf course, play the game, and be with her friends. Unfortunately, the disease won.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ruth Reeder of Altadena, CA, and her son, Robert G. Paup of Fairfield Glade. Bob's death was a devastating blow to her.
Susan is survived by her husband, Michael, of Fairfield Glade; sisters, Patricia Shackeroff of Beaufort, NC, and Sally Peterson of Balboa Island, CA; daughter, Allison George, and son-in-law, David George of Atlanta; son, Matthew W. Brown, M.D., and son-in-law, Nelio DeSantos of Salem, MA.
Sue was the proud grandmother of Madison George of Nashville, TN; Justin George of Hot Springs, VA; Collin George of Athens, GA; and Landon George of Ole Miss, Oxford, MS; and granddaughters Gabriella and Amaya Brown of Salem, MA.
Several nieces and nephews survive her.
There will be a private memorial service at a future point in time for the immediate family.
In place of flowers, donations to the National Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
