Stephen F. Jeroutek Obituary

Stephen (Steve) was the son and grandson of Polish immigrants who fled violence and political oppression to find freedom and opportunities for a better life in the United States. He grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.

Steve earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton, Ohio and a Master of Science from Loyola University Chicago. His career as an employee of the United States Department of Labor was dedicated to investigating and prosecuting violators of fair labor laws.

As an active sportsman and craftsman, Steve always enjoyed hunting, fishing, exploring, building, and tinkering. After retirement he expanded on these hobbies by building and operating a small farm near Unionville, Tennessee and exploring the greater United States through extensive RV travel. He was generally characterized by those who knew him as being fiercely protective, occasionally irreverent, socially private, and unrelentingly idealistic. He was a life-long member of the Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Virginia (nee Majka) Jeroutek, his sister Barbara Sierakowski, and his daughter Debra Jeroutek. Survived by his wife, Norma; his sister Christine (Richard) Hoffman; his sons Michael Jeroutek of Prairie Village, KS, Stephen (Tracy) Jeroutek of Knoxville, TN, Matthew Jeroutek of Knoxville, TN; his step-daughters Laurie (Roy) Watts of Murfreesboro, TN, Tracie (Bill) Bennett of Knoxville, TN, and Sandi (Doug) Puett of Mountain View, CA; and by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the exceptional care that Steve received during his final years by the dedicated and loving staff of Dominion Senior Living at Crossville, Tennessee.
