Feb. 14, 1925—Dec. 5, 2012 Stacy Abner Jr., 87, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 5, 2012. Funeral services were held Dec. 8 at Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Mayo officiating. Interment was in Green Acres Memory Gardens with full military honors provided by the veterans honor guard. He was born Feb. 14, 1925, in New Hope, AL, the son of the late Stacy Abner Sr. and Ruby (Reeves) Abner. Mr. Abner was retired from Crossville Rubber Plant and was a member of the Pomona United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was stationed on the USS San Diego in Tokyo Harbor when the surrender of Japan occurred. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gertha (Swallows) Abner, of Crossville; sons, Roger Abner (Mary) of Crossville and Michael Abner (Joyce) of Naples, FL; daughters, Kristy Smith of Crossville and Sharon Grant (Daryl) of Tampa, FL; brothers, William Ray Abner of Ten Mile, TN, Ronald "Pap" Abner of Crossville and Jimmy Abner of Nashville; nine grandchildren, Aaron Hurley, Kevin Presley, Traci Abner, Lisa Abner, Lesley Smith, Kim Kirchner, Tandi Danklef, Megan Abner and Jessica Abner; and six great-grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Cameron Smith, Lexi Kirchner, Jaylee Kirchner and Sidney Danklef. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nelda Abner. Pallbearers were Roger Abner, Michael Abner, Kevin Presley, Aaron Hurley, A.J. Patton and Daryl Grant. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
