Ruby Carter, 92, of Rockwood, passed away Jan. 3, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 5 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with Bro. Jim Wesson officiating. Graveside services and interment were held Jan. 6 in Roane Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Carter was born Nov. 14, 1909, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Dexter and Dora Palmer Spurling Hamby. She was a member of Rockwood Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Albert Griffin of Rockwood; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Patsy Carter of Rockwood and Dana and Mary Carter of Westel; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth and Owen Narramore, and Arleva Hembree, all of Rockwood; brother, Clyde Hamby of Westel; grandchildren, Mike Griffin, Susan Thomas, Albert Griffin II, Karen Griffin, Paula Hodge, Kathy Jones, Kendra Carter, Melissa Carter, Greg Carter, Roger Carter and Derek Carter; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dexter and Dora Palmer Spurling Hamby; her husband of 65 years, Dorsey Carter; son, Paul Ed Carter; sisters, Cordie Farmer and Claudia Carter; twin sister, Reba Wicks; and brothers, Benton Hamby and Clifford Hamby. Evans Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
