Crossville, TN - Mildred "Millie" Kay Deatherage, 84, of Crossville, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, April 30, 2026, at Willow Ridge Center in Maynardville, TN.

Born on Feb. 22, 1942, in Berkeley Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Taft Barnes and Annetta Margaret Unger Barnes. She was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother, Millie always helped family and friends in need, including charitable organizations for veterans and children.

She had a giving nature, a quirky sense of humor, and the ability to see the beauty in everything and the goodness in everyone. Millie loved spending time with family and time in nature. She loved photography, science fiction, art, poetry, gardening, and getting to know and help people from all walks of life. She was full of kindness, compassion, and generosity. Millie was a blessing to many and will be missed dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Philip Miner Deatherage; parents, Annetta and Herbert Barnes; siblings, Charlotte Trail, Marguerite Fleegle, Herbert David Barnes, Barbara Barnes, and Randy Barnes. She is survived by her children, Sarah and Paul Deatherage; step-children, James, Tom and Ann Deatherage; sisters, Lucille Ray and Rachel Glascock, and brother Bruce Barnes.

Receiving of friends will be at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel 4131 E. Emory Rd. Knoxville, TN 37938 on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with a funeral service at 1 p.m. Family and friends will meet at 2:45 p.m. at Oliver Springs Cemetery, Oliver Springs, TN, for a 3 p.m. graveside service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Millie's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org, or Easter Seals, at www.easterseals.com.
