Max William Apple Jr. Obituary
Crossville, TN - Max William Apple, Jr., 65, of Crossville, passed away June 30, 2026.
Born December 12, 1960, in Terre Haute, IN, Max was the son of Max William Apple, Sr. and Glenda (Sherrill) Apple. He was a member of Terre Haute North Vigo High School, Class of 1979, and carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance.
Max spent his career working with his hands and building a life through honest labor. Over the years, he worked as a stone mason, and in the oil and gas exploration industry before finding a home with The Feed Store in Crossville. There, he became a valued and respected member of the team, appreciated by coworkers and customers alike for his dependable nature, friendly spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Max had many interests, including hunting, fishing, gardening, and especially caring for his many animals. He loved and raised a number of animals, both large and small, and spent many hours tending to and caring for them.
Above all else, Max treasured his family.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Davis) Apple; his daughters, Hannah Marie Apple and Hayley Alice Apple; his mother, Glenda (Sherrill) Pfaff of Crossville; his brothers, Rodney Pfaff of Crossville, and Christopher Pfaff and his wife, Tonya, of Terre Haute, IN; and his nieces and nephews, Talon Pfaff, Griffin Pfaff, Anne Pfaff, Greta Pfaff, and Katherine Pfaff. He is also survived by many cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and coworkers whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max William Apple, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Charles and Alice (Wells) Apple of Paoli, IN; and his maternal grandparents, Bradley and Lillie (Bohanon) Sherrill of Crossville.
Those who knew Max will remember him as a man who believed in lending a hand, working hard, and caring deeply for those he loved. Whether on a job site, at work, or spending time with family, Max was someone others could count on. His quiet strength, generous heart, and steady presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His family finds comfort in the many memories they shared with him, and in the lasting legacy of love, integrity, and devotion he leaves behind.
A celebration of Max's life will be announced by the family at a later date.
The family encourages those who wish to honor Max's memory to perform an act of kindness for someone in need, particularly a neighbor or friend — a fitting tribute to a man who believed in helping others through simple acts of generosity.
