Crossville, Tennessee - Mary Shilling, 90, a longtime resident of Crossville, died suddenly of natural causes on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026. She was born Sept. 2, 1935 in Columbus Grove, OH; a daughter of Lawrence and Lena Hoffman.
Mary graduated from Columbus Grove High School and attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mary worked as a secretary in several settings during her lifetime: oil refinery, social services, construction and medical.
She was wedded to Glen Kidd for 25 years and had five children. She later married Richard "Dick" Shilling and they celebrated 33 years together prior to his death. Glen survives. In addition to her parents and her husband, Dick (December 2020), Mary was preceded in death by four siblings. Furthermore, she endured the death of three children. Surviving are two children and four step-children. She has three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Born and raised in rural OH, lived in PA as an adult, and moved to Crossville, TN in 1995 where she was involved in the community. Among other activities, she volunteered at the hospital and the Cumberland County Playhouse. She was an avid gardener, made crafts, played golf and loved her family and friends. A memorial celebrating her life will be held on February 5, 2026 at 3 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 481 Snead Drive, in Fairfield Glade, where she will be interred.
