Margaret Ann Overby Obituary

Crossville, TN - Margaret Ann Overby of Crossville passed away peacefully at her residence on June 12, 2025 with family by her side. She was born Oct. 28, 1936 in Stewart County, GA as the daughter of the late Hugh Overby, Jr. and the late Maggie Adele Sapp Overby. She resided in Richland, GA for much of her adult life. She was a graduate of Richland High School and lettered in basketball during high school. After high school, she became professionally licensed as a beautician, working at Wilson's Beauty Shop for many years and she later owned and operated Ann's Beauty Shop in her hometown, where she was beloved by her clients and friends. She was a faithful longtime member of Richland First Baptist Church. After moving to Crossville she attended Bible Missionary Church. Ann was a caregiver to both of her parents in the latter stages of their lives and also provided special assistance to her eldest brother, Buster, for an extended period when his health declined. She eventually moved to Crossville to be near her extended family in her later years, living independently at Azalea Gardens Assisted Living. A kind and generous soul by nature, Ann's love language was that of providing acts of service for others, which she graciously provided to friends, family and neighbors for her entire life. She enjoyed gardening, fashion, shopping, watching QVC was a favorite pastime, and spending time with her family and friends especially at the beach. As an excellent cook, she loved preparing meals for family, friends and her fellow residents at Azalea Gardens. Her biscuits and cornbread will be sorely missed and her pound cake will remain a legend. She was predeceased by both of her parents and her three siblings, Hugh (Buster) Overby III; Lucia Overby Farley; and William Gustin (Bill) Overby. Always known affectionately as "Aunt Ann" by her extended family, she is survived by nieces and nephews, Sharon Walker of Quanah, TX; Fred Overby of Richland, GA; Gayle (Charlie) Wilson of Crossville; Clark Overby of Eastman, GA; Tammy Bryant (Larry) of Blackshear, GA and Tom (Stefanie) Overby of Crossville, along with a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving her are first cousins including, Merle Overby Jernigan, George Overby and Margaret Overby (Adolph) McClendon. The family expresses special appreciation to Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 E. Adams St., Crossville, TN 38555 for their care and assistance during her final illness and suggests that any memorials be made in her memory to that organization. Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory handled the arrangements with a future private memorial ceremony being planned as per her last wishes.
