Lucy I. Acuff Obituary

1910 — 2010 Lucy Idol Acuff, known as Mother Lucy, passed away recently. Funeral services were held July 1 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Graveside committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Green Acres Memory Gardens, with Pastor Keith Medley officiating and special music by Regina Stevens. Mrs. Acuff was born Aug. 18, 1910, the daughter of Dave and Lottie Idol of Middlesboro, KY. She was always a "people person" and spent most of her adult life working in the field of retail clothing. She retired at the age of 78, when Middlesboro's women's clothier, The Tack Room, closed its doors. She lived the last 15 years of her life in Cumberland County. Survivors include her sister, Imogene Oliver of Durham, NC; son-in-law, Gene Medley and granddaughter, Charlotte Medley of Crossville; granddaughter Gisele Medley Redmond, her partner Susan Vaught, and great-grandson, JB Redmond of Hopkinsville, KY; great-granddaughter, Gynni Redmond of Westmoreland; and niece, Cathy Terrill of North Carolina. In addition to family, she was loved by a host of friends and caretakers, especially the caring staff of Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill, who treated her with kindness, tenderness and respect during her waning months and days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gaynell Evans of Norton, VA, and her beloved daughter, Stelmo Medley of Crossville. Pallbearers will be Gary Medley, Van Medley, Jason Medley, Keith Medley and Roy Young. Memorials are suggested to Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill. Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
