Lenora Ruby Elmore Witt April 5, 1915 - Jan. 9, 2002 Obituary

Lenora Ruby Elmore Witt, 86, of Cookeville, passed away Jan. 9, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home in Cookeville, with burial in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Glen McDoniel and Gary Hampton will officiate. Mrs. Witt was born April 5, 1915, in Crossville, the oldest of 12 children of George Washington and Myrtle McCoy Elmore. She was a retired nurse and X-ray assistant at Jackson County Hospital in Gainesboro, TN, and was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Joe Penner of St. Petersburg, FL, and Margaret and Dr. James L. Smith, and Kathleen and Hugh Adams, all of Cookeville; son and daughter-in-law, Alton P. Jr. and Sandra Witt of Canton, GA; sisters, Maurine Campbell of Memphis, TN, Elsie Brown of Rochester, NY, and Alice Harris of Dallas, TX; brothers, George Elmore of Crossville, Charles Elmore of Dayton, OH, and Leo Elmore of Donna, TX; grandchildren, Jason Penner, David Penner, Chris Smith, Cindy Steine, Virginia "Ginny" Henson, Lisa Mabrey, Jonathan Witt and Angela Witt; eight great-grandchildren; and special friend, Dorothy Gentry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton P. Witt Sr.; grandson, James Michael Smith; sisters, Fifi Cantrell and Roxie Bridges; and brothers, Lester Elmore, James Elmore and Clyde Elmore. Pallbearers will be David Penner, Chris Smith, Jared Smith, Bryan Henson, Zach Henson, Jonathan Witt and Mark Mabrey. Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
