John Edward Kerley
John Edward Kerley was born on March 27, 1944, in Bledsoe County. He was the son of Lon Kerley and Rachel (Harding) Kerley. John's earthly life was not an easy one. He suffered with severe epilepsy from a young age and the associated, behavioral difficulties that resulted from being born in a time and place where his condition was not fully understood. As a result, he spent most of his adult life residing in managed-care facilities - befriending and nurturing those around him when he could, and relying on treasured caregivers when he could not. He was born with a sharp intellect, quick wit and giving nature into a body that wouldn't allow him to express those things on a regular basis. However, those that knew him and saw him at his best know who he truly was despite his condition.
The burdens of his earthly body ended on Oct. 3, 2019. His is celebrating a new body in heaven with those who precede him in death, his Mom, Rachel, and Dad, Lon, along with all of his grandparents and friends made over the years. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Walker Montgomery and Dollie Mae Walker Tharp; and his brother, Oliver Henry Walker.
He is survived by his sisters, Wilma Frances Kerley Proffitt and Pearl Kerley (Robert) Hall, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
