Owosso, MI - John "David" Bell, 78, of Owosso, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, at Nelson-House Funeral Home. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery.

Born on January 24, 1947, in Dayton, TN, John was the son of James and Lexie (Beaty) Bell. He graduated from Dayton High School and went on to attend the University of Tennessee on a basketball scholarship. Soon after, John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Throughout his life, John remained committed to his community and faith. He was a former member of Toastmasters in Tennessee, the American Legion, and the Church of Christ men's ensemble. He was also a passionate sports fan, eagerly awaiting football and basketball season each year to cheer on his favorite teams.

Above all, John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married the love of his life, Janette Marie Baggett, on Sept. 6, 1996, in Kentucky. Together, they shared over 29 years of love and laughter.

John dedicated over 30 years of his career working as a service technician for elections, a role he took great pride in.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janette Bell; his sons, Denis Payne, Ross Bell, and Kevin Bell; step-children, Danny (Amy) Gallahar and Autumn (Jeremy) Fick; grandchildren, Hannah, Kylie, and Drew Gallahar, and Anna Fick; siblings, Lewis (Reta) Bell, Carolyn (Michael) Rains, and Mark (Patty) Bell; along with many other cherished family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lexie Bell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, an organization close to John's heart.
