Crossville, TN - James Mayberry, 70, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and member of the Crossville community, passed away peacefully at his home on July 6.

Above all, James was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vicki Mayberry; his sons, Nick Mayberry and wife Ivy, and Josh Mayberry and wife Casha; his daughter, Leslie Mayberry; and his eight grandchildren, Preston, J'Lyn, Dysen, Braxton, Knox, Kershaw, Sophie, and Parks.

He is also survived by his brother, William Mayberry and wife Judy; his sister, Susan Smartt and husband Steve; and his cherished dogs, Bella and Lucy.

James was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Mayberry, and his parents, Bill and Sally Mayberry.

James treasured time with his family and took special joy in spending quality time with his wife, Vicki. He also enjoyed working on cars, spending time at the lake, and following his lifelong passion for racing. He had a natural desire and remarkable ability to fix things and was always willing to tackle a problem or lend a helping hand. Family, friends, and neighbors knew they could count on him, no matter the need or circumstance. Known for his easygoing nature, James was an attentive listener whose reassuring presence made others feel heard and valued.

He was a successful business owner of Mayberry's Complete Home Furnishings, a family business established by his father and grandfather in 1946. Under his leadership, the business continued its tradition of serving local families and became a familiar and valued part of downtown Crossville. Through his work, he carried forward a proud family legacy while forming lasting relationships throughout the area.

James also dedicated many years to serving the citizens of Crossville, first as mayor and later as a member of the Crossville City Council. During his time in public office, he was recognized for his sound judgment, measured leadership, and sincere desire to strengthen the community he proudly called home. His service reflected integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to Crossville's future.

In addition to operating a business and serving the community in elected and appointed boards, James was a long-time member of several civic clubs and organizations — serving as president of both the Tennessee Buying Group and the Fairfield Glade Rotary Club. In each role, he offered wisdom, reliability, and a willingness to serve others.

James will be remembered for his devotion to family, strong work ethic, generous spirit, resourcefulness, and enduring contributions to Crossville. He was dependable in every sense of the word — the kind of man who could be counted on, no matter what. His impact will continue to be seen throughout the community, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
