Henson Lee Atkins, 82, of Crossville, passed away on December 17, 2024, at Cumberland Medical Center.
Mr. Atkins was born on September 18, 1942, in Crossville, the son of the late Henry Lee Atkins and Nettie Mae (Campbell) Atkins.
Henson proudly served in the United States Air Force for 24 years, retiring with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Stations included Vietnam, England, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and the United States. During his service, Henson was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and many other medals and ribbons.
Henson enjoyed being outdoors and traveling and was a huge Tennessee Vols fan. He was an avid reader and loved reading books by Randy Wayne White. He enjoyed visiting his grandchildren and was thrilled to be promoted to "Popeye" by his great-granddaughter, Sofia.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Lowman) Atkins of Crossville; daughters, Lora Atkins (James) of Columbus, Georgia; Trudie Langford (Todd) of Cape Coral, Florida; and Christina McCloud (James) of Crossville; grandchildren, Kayla Dick of Kennesaw, Georgia; Nicholas Dick (Michelle) of Castle Rock, Colorado; Gillian Langford of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Shirley Mast (Tyler) of Riverview, Florida; Olivia Langford of Port Charlotte, Florida; Anna Langford of Cape Coral, Florida; Trey McCloud (Lexy) of Punta Gorda, Florida; and Christopher McCloud of Crossville; great-granddaughter, Sofia of Castle Rock, Colorado; and many special cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lee Atkins and Nettie Mae (Campbell) Atkins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 1pm at Bilbrey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12pm to 1pm prior to the service.
