Gertha Abner Obituary

Gertha Abner, 97, of Crossville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, at Cumberland Medical Center.

Born on Sept. 12, 1923, in Livingston, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Swallows and Effie (Hunter) Swallows.

Gertha was a homemaker and was a member of the Pomona United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Roger Abner (Mary) of Crossville; daughters, Sharon Grant (Daryl) of Florida and Kristy Smith of Crossville; grandchildren, Tracy Abner, Lisa Abner, Leslie Grant, Kim Grant, Kevin Presley, Megan Abner, Jessie Abner, Aaron Hurley and Tandy Aber; sister, Bertha Dillon of Crossville; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Abner of Florida.

In addition to her parents, Gertha is preceded in death by her husband, Stacy Abner Jr.; brothers, Clinton Swallows, Benton Swallows, Haskel Swallows, Clarence Swallows and Carl Swallows; and sisters, Myrtle Jackson, Daisy Holt and Beulah Boatman.

Funeral services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Mayo officiating. Interment in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

The family requests donations to be made to Bilbrey Funeral Home to help pay for a headstone.

Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
