May 20, 1938—April 10, 2014 Funeral services for George Oscar Abston, 75, of Mayland, were held April 13 at Goff Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Hall officiated, with interment in the Mayland Cemetery. Mr. Abston was born May 20, 1938, in Overton County, to the late Lonnie Edward and Edith Lacy Abston. Mr. Abston passed away April 10, 2014, at his home in Mayland. Mr. Abston was a timber cutter, a carpenter, a coal miner and worked with Atlas Powder Company in Monterey. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Cravens Abston of Mayland; daugher, Connie Sherrill of Mayland; son and companion, Jackey (Tim) Abston and Traci Hassler of Crossville; grandchildren, Jackey Sherrill, Jacob Abston, Christopher Chad Rogers, Bailey Coutler and April Brooke Abston; sisters, Betty Smith of Twinton, Emma Robbins of Mayland and Nellie Mahaney of the Plateau community; and brothers, Willie Abston of Cravenstown and Arnold Abston of Mayland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, J.L. Abston, R.D. Abston and Marvin Abston. Goff Funeral Home of Montery was in charge of arrangements.
