Erin Goodin
Erin Goodin, 93, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Oct. 2 in Memphis. He was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Fairfield Glade, Fairfield Baptist Church and Graceland Baptist Church in Whitehaven, TN. He was a deacon and held several leadership positions in all three churches.
Mr. Goodin was born in Louisville, MS, to the late Myrtle (Seale) Goodin and the late Henry Tom Goodin (Papa G). He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lou Broome Goodin; his sister, Laura Rowell; and his brother, Ed Goodin.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Whisman) Goodin; his two children, John Goodin (Patsy) of Collierville, TN, and Lisa Goodin of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren, Josh Goodin (Stephanie), Katie Baker, Beth Goodin and Sally Mayfield (Barry); four great-grandchildren, Logan Goodin, Wesley Goodin, Beau Mayfield and Sunny Mayfield. Erin is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Goodin graduated from Louisville High School in Mississippi. He joined the United States Navy and served during WWII. He originally attended Millsaps College, but later graduated from Mississippi College in Clinton, thanks to the G.I. Bill. He told stories of playing cards with Johnny Carson, loved a good game of dominoes, and could cook up killer enchiladas. Erin worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years; this took him and his family all over the country, including Texas, Colorado, Utah, Georgia and Tennessee. He retired from USAA and resided in Fairfield Glade.
Erin's children loved and respected him. They say at times he could be ornery (and that one may share this trait), but they will miss him dearly. His friends and family are comforted to know he is at peace and with Jesus and "Mom." We want to give a special thanks to his nurse, Diana Koontz, who also became family.
A memorial service for Mr. Erin Goodin was held at Antioch Baptist Church in Prentiss, MS, on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Palmer Home for Children-Hernando
