Dual Edsel South Obituary

Windermere, Florida - Dual Edsel South, 89, of Windermere, FL, left this world peacefully at home on Jan. 2, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Dual was born on Jan. 17, 1936, in Crossville, the son of Estle and Ethel South. He grew up in Crossville, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. After graduating from Cumberland County High School in 1954, where he played basketball and football, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. It was at the University of Tennessee where Dual met his loving wife of 67 years, Thais Jane South. Dual was also an active member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at the University of Tennessee.

After graduating college, Dual and Jane moved to Lake Park, FL, Palm Beach County, in January 1960 where he began his career as an aeronautical engineer at Pratt & Whitney. Dual would eventually go on to become a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch.

In 1980, the family moved to Palm Beach Gardens, where Dual would retire from Merrill Lynch in 2000 after a long and successful career, before moving to Windermere, FL.

A loving husband to Jane, Dual was a pillar of strength and support for his family. Together, they raised four children, Jeffrey Todd South, spouse Lisa South; Sandee Renee Vickers, spouse, Vic Vickers; Kristee Leigh Garrity, spouse, Steve Garrity; and Dual Scott South, spouse, Julie South.

He was a devoted father, always there to offer guidance, love, and a hearty laugh. He cherished family gatherings at the beach, in the mountains, and simply at home, where his presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and joy to those around him.

Dual had many passions in life, including coaching his children's little league teams and playing tennis, which he also enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren. He was known for his love for dogs, mainly boxers, and his sense of humor could light up any room.

Dual was preceded in death by his parents, Estle and Ethel; and his granddaughter, Annabellah Bellah Grace South. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane; his four children, Todd, Sandee, Scott, Kristee, and their spouses; 13 grandchildren, Stephen Scott South, Dual Thomas South, William Tyler South, spouse, Shannon South, James Wyatt South, Chris Guzik, Jane Vickers, Vic Vickers, Jenna Garrity, Jack Garrity, Juliah South, Hannah South, Makaylah South, and Sarah South Stanley, spouse, Nate Stanley. He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed by all.

A private celebration of life ceremony will be held amongst family. Friends are invited to leave notes and share memories below or send cards to the family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dual's honor to the Palliative Care Team at Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital, where Dual's granddaughter, Bellah, was lovingly cared for.
