Dr. Maria Stubbs, 54, of Crossville, passed away at her home on December 10, 2024.
Dr. Stubbs was born on December 31, 1969, in Habana, Cuba, daughter of Esteban Torres and Maria A. Torres. She escaped Cuba at the age of 10 with her family and relocated to Miami, FL. There she developed a desire to care for people at a young age. She was a volunteer candy striper at local hospitals while in high school, which led her to wanting to be a medical doctor. In her eyes, she believed she could help the most by being a physician. She completed her BA at the University of Miami and then attended Medical School and at the University of Kansas. She later returned to Miami to complete her internship and residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. In 2006, she relocated to Crossville, where she opened her own practice, Stubbs Medical Center, where she cared for the community for over 18 years.
She is survived by her husband, Brian Stubbs; daughter, Dr. Brittney Stubbs; son, Brandon Stubbs; granddaughter, Isabelle Shultz; parents, Esteban Torres and Maria Torres; brother, Esteban Torres; sister, Cindy Torres; and aunt, Virgina Torres.
A private family service was held in her honor by Bilbrey Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
In lieu of cards and flowers the family request a donation be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital
