Crossville, TN - David "Sully" Sullivan, 77, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, in Crossville.

Born on July 16, 1948, in Gary, IN, Sully spent his childhood in Chicago, IL, where he would eventually meet the love of his life, Marianne Fitzgibbons. The two shared 44 years of marriage and built a life filled with love, adventure, and family. After living in California for more than 30 years, they moved to Tennessee in 2013.

Sully devoted much of his life to military service. He proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1968, including combat service during the Vietnam War. Continuing his commitment to his country, he later served on active duty with the Coast Guard during Operation Desert Storm and with the Army National Guard during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His dedication to military service followed a proud family tradition established by his father, Leslie Sullivan, a United States Marine who served during World War II.

Outside of his military career, Sully enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, playing softball, and reading. A proud Chicagoan at heart, he remained a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago White Sox, even during their many losing seasons. He valued friendship, loved sharing stories, and appreciated the simple pleasures of time spent with family and friends.

Sully is survived by his beloved wife, Marianne (Fitzgibbons) Sullivan; his daughter, Meaghan Sullivan; and his cherished granddog, Baby Scout. He is also survived by his sister, Lezlie Thoroddsson, and her husband, Peter; his lifelong friends, Patrick Flynn and Earl Burke; and many nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched over the years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Sullivan, and his mother, June Sullivan.

Sully will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his family, the friendships he treasured, and the many memories he created throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

No services are scheduled at this time. An honorary military service will be held at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Elwood, IL at a later date.
