Coach L.A. Fox, Sr.
Coach L.A. Fox Sr., 92, of Crossville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019.
He was born April 9, 1927, in Jackson County, son of the late James Otis Fox and Hallie Mae (Burton) Fox.
After serving his country in the Army during World War II, Coach Fox graduated from Tennessee Tech University in education, and later obtained his master's degree in administration. In addition to coaching basketball and football in his early years, he also served in the Central Office as the Athletic and Attendance Director before his retirement. However, his greatest joy was to be of service to the people of Cumberland County. Coach Fox was also a member of the Crossville Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Potts Fox of Crossville; sons, L.A. Fox Jr. (Cindy) of Crossville and Richard W. Fox of Crossville; daughter, Lu Pace (Roger) of Parma, OH; grandchildren, Candace Fox Bohannon (Sam) of Nashville and Austen Fox (Lindsey) of Crossville; great-grandchildren, Shiloh, Evelyn, Maverick and Ronan of Nashville; brother, Boodie Fox of Hixson, TN; and sisters, Joan Holloway of Hixson and Johnnie Perry of Chattanooga.
In addition to his parents, Coach Fox is preceded in death by his brother, Carl Fox; and sisters, Alice Smith, Juanita Spencer and Minnie Ezell.
Funeral services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Larry McDuffee, Bro. Barry Kennedy, Bro. Alan Judd and Bro. Jack Chadwell officiating. Interment in Crossville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were L.A. Fox Jr., Austen Fox, Richard Fox, Sam Bohannon, Rufus Maxwell and Dale Hennessee. Honorary pallbearers were Pepe Perron, Boodie Fox and Roger Pace.
The family requests that memorial donations be made in honor of Coach Fox to Hospice of Cumberland County.
