Beulah Gusta Boatman, 91, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 22, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Pomona Cemetery. Bro. Cliff Ingram and Bro. Bratton Tucker officiated, with special music by Anne Turbett, Sue Brown and Lynne Martin. Mrs. Boatman was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Cookeville, TN, the daughter of Isaac and Effie Hunter Swallows. She was a homemaker, and a member of Pomona United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Vandever, Cleta Steele and Anne Turbett, all of Crossville, Maxine Martin of Birmingham, AL, and Sue Brown of Wisconsin Dells, WI; sisters, Daisy Holt, Gertha Abner and Bertha Dillon, all of Crossville, and Myrtle Carter of Soddy-Daisy, TN; brothers, Clinton Swallows of Dayton, OH, and Clarence Swallows of Crossville; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Byrd Boatman; son, Carl Boatman; and brothers, Haskell Swallows and Benton Swallows. Pallbearers were Mike Steele, Tom Vandever, Ed Vandever, Keith Vandever, Matt Boatman, Rick Hieser and Tom E. Brown. The family requests that memorials be made to the Pomona United Methodist Church Building Fund. Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
