Funeral services for Alvin Butram "A.B." Jr., 78, of Cookeville, who passed away April 24, 1999, were held April 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Johnny Fox officiated. He was born April 22, 1921 in Fentress County, the son of A. B. Adkins Sr., and Linnie Emery Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a law enforcement officer, and he was a member of Sycamore Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Wells Adkins of Cookeville; sons, Lawrence A. Adkins of Brooksville, FL, and James Adkins of Crossville; brother, Charles Hoyt Adkins of Knoxville; and sisters, Thelma Anderson of California, Donna Reid of Vandalia, OH, Mattie Lou Kemmer of Crab Orchard, TN, and Linnie Greene of Murfreesboro, TN. Pallbearers were Ivan Bilbrey, Vernon Locke, Clovis Roberts, Ronald Hall, Kenneth Roberts, Luther Wells and Danny Roberts. Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
