Zola Magdalene Nickerson, 75, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 30, 2016, in Chattanooga, TN. She was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Pensacola, FL, to Herbert L. Rice and Mary Evelyn Rice. She lived the last 10 years in Crossville. Previous residence include Culpeper, VA; El Cajon, CA; and Pensacola, FL.
Zola is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Peter G. Nickerson; her four children, Michael Nickerson (Brenda), Timothy Nickerson (Carolyn), Daniel Nickerson (Ada) and Elizabeth Fry (Roger); and her sisters, Rita Catches and Mary Dilda (Roy). Zola also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Diantha, Hannah, Victoria, Jacob, Thomas, Teresa, Zoe, Zachary and Lily; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and a brother-in-law.
Zola worked for St. Madeleine Sophie's Center in El Cajon, CA, and Ross Industries in Virginia. She loved to garden, to read, to go bowling and spending time with family. She was proud of her collection of buffaloes and angels. Zola was able to travel to so many places including Russia, Japan, Austria, England, France, Germany, Ireland, St. Thomas, St. Croix and Newfoundland and visited all 50 states. She loved to learn about the new cultures she encountered and share with anyone who would listen.
She will be laid to rest at a later date at St. Peter Catholic Church in Washington, VA.
Covenant Funeral & Crematory was in charge of the arrangements.
