Wilma Marie Vandever, 87, of Crossville, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey, TN.
She was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Livingston, TN, to Wayne and Alma Cooper Freeman. Mrs. Marie was five years old when she moved to the Cumberland Homesteads in Crossville where she attended school until her second year of high school. At that time, the high school became a junior high school and Homestead children went to Cumberland County High. After high school, she met and married Robert "Bob" L. Vandever. To this union was born three children, James Daniel, Jerry Lynn and Sharon Kaye. Mrs. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Gospel Baptist Tabernacle and had taught Sunday school at the Tabernacle and other places where she had lived for about 50 years. She loved her church and loved singing in the choir as long as she was able.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maurine Freeman; brothers, Marvin Freeman and Roscoe Freeman Sr.; her loving husband of 41 years, Bob; as well as her precious daughter Sharon Cole.
Mrs. Marie is survived by sons Danny (Sharon) and Jerry (Sandy) and son-in-law Walter Cole. She is also survived by five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored. She will be greatly missed by friends and family who nevertheless will be comforted that she is once again united with her loved ones who have gone on before her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Bilbrey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lantana Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Tim Vandever, Tony Vandever, Travis Cole, Roscoe Freeman, Wayne Freeman and Robert Frazier.
