May 20, 1957—Feb. 23, 2016 William “Bill” Russell Thrall Jr., 58, of Crossville, TN, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. He was born May 20, 1957, in Cambridge, MA, son of the late William Russell Thrall Sr. and Jennie (Wons) Thrall. Bill began his career in law enforcement at the Miami Beach Police Department in the early 1980s, where he worked his way up from patrolman to detective quickly. Throughout the years, he participated in a combined local, state and federal task force, as well as an Auto Theft Task Force within his home department and a stint working closely with the U.S. Customs Department. Bill received many commendations and awards throughout his career and appeared on national television programs such as "Dateline" and "Eye on Crime" in the late 1980s. After his +25 years of service he retired and returned to his wife's hometown of Crossville. Bill consistently tried to find time to return to his favorite place, his summer home in Scarborough, ME. This is where he spent his summers as a child and continued that tradition with his children and then his grandchildren. Bill will be remembered as a man who could do anything, fix anything and who could always be counted on to be there when needed, especially when it came to his family and extended family. He is survived by his wife, Jaime Thrall; sons, William Russell Thrall III and fiancee Caitlin, and James Marshall Thrall; daughters, Penny Amsden and husband Steve, and Sherry Putnam; sister, Donna Bryan, Brandon, FL; and his beloved canine companion, Daisy. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jean Serra. Funeral services will be held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc.
