Thomas's Story

March 17, 2016 Thomas Allen Ripley of Fairfield Glade, TN (formerly of Lansing, MI, and Ft. Wayne, IN), 87, passed away on March 17, 2016, after a two-year struggle with ALS. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn, to whom he was married for 67 years. He also will be greatly missed by his three loving children, Kyle Kay Ripley of Grand Ledge, MI; Jill Diane Ripley Hughes of Mason, OH; and Robert Allan (Cheryl) Ripley of Traverse City, MI. Three grandsons, Coby Ryan Hughes, Cameron Mackenzie Hughes and Dustin Thomas Ripley, survive Tom as well as his younger brother, Myron Ripley, of Findlay, OH. He was preceded in death by his brother, John, and sisters, Mary Sparks and Lois Schoeff. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Tom spent his career as an accountant, primarily with the State of Michigan. Over the years, he shared his love of golf with his family and played in many Fairfield Glade golf groups. He also enjoyed hiking, sailing, playing cards, reading and watching sports. A man of strong faith, Tom was a member of the Methodist Church and offered his services as a financial advisor at each congregation he and Marilyn belonged to. Memorial services will be held at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 24, at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 231 Westchester Drive, Fairfield Glade, TN, 38558, or to the charity of your choice.
