Samuel Gordon Tabor, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 22, 2016, at his home.
Gordon was born May 5, 1927, in Crossville, son of the late Edward Tabor and Macell Tollett Tabor. Gordon was saved at an early age and attended Fredonia Baptist Church all his life. He was the song leader for more than 60 years and served as a deacon throughout those years.
Gordon was employed for 39 years with Malone and Hyde Wholesalers from where he retired in 1984. After retiring, he drove a school bus for the Cumberland County School System for several years. He was self-employed and operated Tabor Farms from 1985 until 2013. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a wonderful brother, husband and step-father. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Smith Tabor of 40 years; second wife, Pauline McGilton Polson Tabor of 31 years, who just passed away June 26, 2016; and brothers, Moses Tabor and Stanley Tabor.
He is survived by one brother and five sisters, Steward Tabor, Sula Daniels (Lonnie), Virgilene Lotze, Shirley Rinks, Patricia Austin and Beverly Aidun (Dary); step-daughters, Sherry Polson Barker, Shirley Polson Brown (Bob) and Martha Polson Wright (Thomas); step-grandsons, Chad Pugh (Tracee), Derrick Pugh and Jordan Barker (Mary); step-granddaughter, Hannah Barker; step great-grandchildren, Lena Pugh and Jeice Barker; and many nieces and nephews including Lora Green Kane and Lyle, Frank and Wade Green, children of Virginia's sister Mary, who passed away when her children were young. Gordon and Virginia stepped in and helped their father, Willard, with the children after Mary's death.
Funeral services were held at Fredonia Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at noon with Bro. Joe Young officiating. Interment in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers were Wade Green, Chad Pugh, David Rinks, Wiley Smith Jr., Thomas Wright and Shalon Turner. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Stout, Jordan Barker, Derrick Pugh, Wayne McGilton, C.T. Mathis and Aden Mathis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fredonia Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1391, Crossville, TN 38557.
