Text size

Memorial services for Robert Allen Brown, 81, of White County, TN, were held Saturday, June 17, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Crossville with burial in the church memorial gardens. A reception followed at the church.
Mr. Brown passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at his home.
He was born Friday, June 21, 1935, at home in Newell, WV, to the late Jonathan and Mae Copeland Brown.
After graduating from high school, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy (1954-'58) and was an aircraft mechanic. He was stationed on the USS Hancock Aircraft carrier and Moffett Field in California. While in the Navy, he met Rosemary Kennemer at a USO dance and they got married on July 15, 1956. After his service to his country, he started working at Lockheed Missle and Space Company in Sunnyvale, CA. While working there he worked on the hydraulic and plumbing planning and installation on many of the space crafts, which included the Gemini Projects. Most of his work was top secret and couldn't be discussed. Robert retired from Lockheed in 1986 after 28 years of employment.
Robert and Rosemary raised three children in the Bay Area of California. In 1991, they moved to Crossville and in 2010 moved to Sparta, TN, to be closer to family.
He and Rosemary joined First Presbyterian Church, where he was over the tape ministry and delivered tapes to those who couldn't make it to church. He was very active in helping in any way that he could.
Robert loved his family very much. He was always interested to listen to what was going on in their lives. He also loved animals, especially his gran dogs. His hobbies were wood carving, gardening (he loved his fresh vegetables) and watching and feeding birds.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by three brothers, James Brown, Richard Brown and Brooks Brown; and a sister, Carol Wern.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosemary Brown; two sons, David Brown and daughter-in-law Janet Nowaczyk, and Ronald Brown and daughter-in-law Norma Brown; daughter, Karen Theiss and son-in-law Timothy Theiss; grandchildren, Phillip Brown, Nathaneal Theiss and Alicia Theiss and Hannah and Justin Helton; great grandchildren, Davyn Brown, Kamden Theiss and Conley Theiss; and a brother, John Brown.
Donations in memory of Robert may be made to Crossville Christian School, 28 Rock Quarry Rd., Crossville, TN 38555.
