Okie's Story

Oct. 25, 2015—Feb. 27, 2015 Okie Garland McCormick, 91, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 27, 2015, at Cumberland Medical Center. He was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Kincaid, WV, the son of James Samuel McCormick and Lena (Kincaid) McCormick. Okie worked as a tankerman for Union Carbide and was of the Pentecostal faith. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was a World War II veteran. Okie was also a long-standing member of the Mason fraternity. He is survived by his wife, Etta McCormick of Crossville; daughters, Gloria Morgan and husband, David, of Crossville, Marilyn McCormick of Crossville and Vicki McCormick-Scobie and husband, Ken; and sister, June Justic. He is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Okie was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosetta McCormick; brothers, Eldridge McCormick and James Johnson; and sister, Icey Nichols. Funeral services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home March 3, with Bro. Jim Stephenson and Bro. Bill McNeely officiating. Interment was in Crossville City Cemetery. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc.
