Oct. 4, 1930—March 18, 2015 Naomi Ruth Akins, 84, of Crossville, passed away March 18, 2015. She was born Oct. 4, 1930, in Crossville, the first of six children of the late Marlin and Arfy Brookhart. Naomi completed graduate school at Pleasant Hill and soon thereafter went into the U.S. Air Force where she served through the Korean War. During the war, she was married for a brief period and had her loving son, Franklin Duane Crow. After leaving the Air Force and moving back to the Crossville area, she fell in love with her loving husband of 58 years, Donald Ray Akins. Don was a career Navy man for 30 years until retirement, when he and Naomi moved back home to Crossville and spent the remainder of their lives happily on the farm. She is survived by her son, Franklin Duane Crow of Crossville; sister, Clara Mowery of Ohio; her niece, who was like a daughter, Susan Parsons of Crossville; great-niece, who was like a granddaughter, Tiffany Norris of Crossville; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many friends. One special friend who was always out helping with anything and everything was Claude Norris. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin Brookhart and Arfy Swicegood Brookhart Morgan; brothers, Paul Brookhart and Norman Brookhart; sisters, Lois Manning and Marlene Whittaker; and her loving husband, Donald Akins. Funeral services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home March 21, with Bro. Gary Speich officiating. Interment was in Akins Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Cumberland Veterans Honor Guard. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
