March 17, 2015 Mary Lennelle Shaffer, 85, of Fairfield Glade, formerly from Oak Ridge, went to be with the Lord March 17, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manley and Avenelle Cook of Big Spring, TX. Survivors include her beloved husband of 65 years, James H. Shaffer; sons, David Shaffer and wife, Vickie, of Paintsville, KY, Martin Shaffer and Kathleen of Columbia, SC, and James Shaffer and wife, Angela, of Spring City; and daughter Brenda Black and husband, Andy, of Knoxville, TN; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her brother, Pete Cook of Granbury TX, and sister, June Brown of Lubbock, TX. Mary Nell was a beloved wife, mother to her children, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who already is missed by all who knew her. She and her husband lived in Oak Ridge for 40+ years before retiring to Fairfield Glade in 2001, leaving behind many dear friends and neighbors. Mary Nell was a graduate of Southern Methodist University and, after raising her family, worked at Parkway Cardiology in Oak Ridge. In their retirement, Mary Nell and Jim enjoyed traveling, cross-country skiing and hiking. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 22, from 1-3 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge.
