April 14, 1934—May 5, 2015 Margaret Elizabeth Webb, 81, of Crossville, passed away May 5, 2015, at ParkWest Medical Center in Knoxville. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who have been touched by her generous spirit. The youngest child of 12 children, Margaret was born to Willie Richard “WR” and Sallie Hyder April 14, 1934, in Bon Air, TN. Raised in a mining town, Margaret remembered listening to the Grand Ole Opry and Lil Abner on a large floor model radio on Saturday nights surrounded by her family and neighbors. She took great pride in her education and worked hard for her straight “A” average. Following her graduation from Cumberland High School, she was joined in marriage to the late Carl Douglass Webb Dec. 3, 1952, and moved to Alameda, CA, where Carl was stationed at the Bethesda Naval Base. They returned to Crossville in 1954 to continue to build their family in a permanent home. Margaret began working for the Crossville Chronicle newspaper upon her return, serving 18 years in the advertising department before accepting a position as ad designer with Trade-A-Plane. Her Trade-A-Plane coworkers would come to call her “Scoop Webb” as a testament to her uncanny ability to know everything happening or about to happen around town. She is remembered fondly for dancing and singing Rocky Top around the office. Margaret Webb retired after 30 years of service in May 1999 yet continued her role as editor of the TAP Talk monthly newsletter for the next 16 years. In the last printed edition of TAP Talk, her coworkers and friends described her as having a loving heart that was unsurpassed. Margaret Webb was dedicated to living her life by the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you will have others do unto you.” She was the consummate example for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and her legacy will live within them all. Her greatest joy was cooking for and feeding her family, her neighbors, and anyone in need of a hot meal. She was compassionate, generous, caring, kind hearted, loyal, funny, selfless, determined and relentless. In her own words she said, “I am a doctor, adviser, pharmacist, postmaster, banker, entertainer, stress buster, editor, cook, and party planner.” Our memories are numerous and share a common endearing theme. Margaret Webb was a force of nature determined to leave this world better than she found it.” She is survived by her children, Susan Wilson and her husband, David, of Aberdeen, NC; Carla Kilgo and her husband, James, of Orlando, FL; Ronnie Webb and his wife, Gina; and Scotty Webb and his wife, Cathy, both of Crossville. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 6, at 3 p.m. in the Church of Christ, 423 N. Main Street, Crossville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her name to the Cumberland Good Samaritans Senior Food Drive. Donations can be mailed to P.O.
