Lyle Joseph Flahaven, 85, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill, TN.
Lyle was born in Trail City, SD, son of the late Edward Flahaven and Esther (Collins) Flahaven. He grew up in Aberdeen, SD. Lyle served in the Navy, aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Valley Forge, during the Korean War. He attended Northern State University and received a bachelor of science degree in business management. He made a career in marketing and sales.
Lyle married Kathryn (Kay) Smith in 1953. They were blessed with six children: son, Michael and Kathleen Flahaven of Dallas, TX; son, Timothy Flahaven of Columbus, OH; daughter, Stacy Cofer of Wichita, KS; daughter, Erin and George Eissler of Sarasota, FL; son, James and Mollie Flahaven of Portland, ME; and daughter, Kathryn and Gary Graber of Sarasota, FL. Lyle enjoyed reading, classical music and fishing as well as hunting pheasant, goose and duck. He was involved with service organizations in the various communities he resided, including serving as board president for a sheltered workshop for the mentally challenged. His greatest joy, however, was his family.
Lyle and Kay moved to Fairfield Glade in October 1994 and enjoyed 22 years in this special community. St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church was his spiritual home and richly blessed him. He particularly enjoyed his role as an usher.
Lyle was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
