June 12, 1943—April 23, 2015 Lawrence Fred Slagle Jr., 71, of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 23, 2015, at Hope Hospice House in Ft. Myers, FL. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Syble Slagle, and a sister, Carolyn Bowman. He is survived by his sisters, Peggy Witsell, Shirley Farris and Janice Phipps; and brothers, Jimmy Slagle and Roger Slagle. His surviving children are Sherry McCaskey, Tammie Key, Kim Hornsby, Terri Minchey, Lisa Slagle and Jessie Slagle. Additional family members include 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Fred was born June 12, 1943, in Nashville. He attended school in Nashville and Carthage and was a long-time resident here in Crossville. His work experiences were many and varied. Highlights on his life included a tour in Vietnam as a civilian heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He was successful in resort property sales and development as a salesman and vice president of sales at Fairfield Communities, currently known as Wyndham Resorts (Fairfield Glade, TN, and Williamsburg, VA). His additional resort development experiences included properties in Durban, South Africa, and Branson, MO. As a successful travel company developer, he had businesses in St. Maarten, NA, and Puerto Vallarta, MX. Fred was enjoying living in Ft. Myers, FL, where he and his family had spent many winter months away from the cold of Crossville, particularly at Ft. Myers Beach and on Sanibel Island. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc.
