Lavonne's Story

Text size

Lavonne "Jean" Grover of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at the age of 92. Born in St. Joseph, MO, Jean moved many times, spending the majority of her youth in Geneva, NY.
An accomplished ballet and tap dancer, Jean had an opportunity to dance for a professional company, but having just met a young sailor (after World War II), she instead chose to marry that sailor, Ralph Grover; a marriage that lasted 60 years until Ralph's death in 2007. Jean lived in a number of places during their marriage from Pennsylvania to Illinois to Maryland and back to Pennsylvania, eventually retiring in Fairfield Glade near Crossville, TN, in the late '90s. Jean had a passion for the game of Bridge, rising nearly to the level of Bridge Master in her late 80's. Jean's love for a good joke and her sense of humor was legendary among her friends and family, as was her warmth and generosity.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Anne Francis Humphrey and Harry Albert Humphrey; siblings, Dorothy, Harry and Richard Humphrey; and husband, Ralph A. Grover. She is survived by her two children, Nancy and Russell; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
As a final gift, Jean chose to make a whole body donation for the advancement of medicine and science. While no immediate ceremony is planned, she will later be cremated and her ashes returned to her children and plans for a memorial service may be announced at that time. In lieu of flowers or a specific charity, please make any donations in Jean's memory to your organization of choice.
