Joel Douglas Hampton, 78, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 11, 2017. He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Houston, TX the son of Wilford D. and Dessie F. Hammer Hampton. Joel was raised in Belen, NM.
Joel was a master ASE certified mechanic and was among the first inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame. For more than 30 years he was an automotive instructor at the State Area Vocational School. During his teaching career, he enjoyed mentoring many students. Before his teaching career he worked for the Ford and GM dealerships in Crossville.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Duffy of Crossville; son, David Hampton and his wife Karen of Georgia; daughter, Deborah Hampton also of Georgia; step children, Julie Christie Neal and her husband Ronald of Crossville and Frank Barone of Georgia; grandchildren, Rachel Hampton and Brian Hampton; and step grandchildren, Sienna Howe and Morgan Neal.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. at the chapel of Hood Funeral Home.
