Joaquina "Quina" Thomas, 84, formerly of Crossville, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2016, in Sparks, NV, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Malta, Spain, the daughter of Antonia Berdal Gonzales and Gregorio Perello Rodreges. She was of the Catholic faith. She worked along side her husband, Guy, in their grocery store near Fall Creek Falls State Park.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and lived life to the fullest. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, fishing and cooking. Her life was devoted to her family. They were always on her mind and in her heart. She traveled back and forth to Spain many times to visit loved ones there. In 1958 she became an American citizen. She loved America and her family here.
She will be greatly missed by her family here and abroad, and also by many friends and neighbors. She is survived by her step-daughter, Betty Ybarra of Sparks, NV; brother, Joaquin Perello and wife Della; sister-in-law, Maria; and many other family members in Spain.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy; son, Sammy Thomas; and also two brothers and two sisters.
A graveside memorial service was held at Akins Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Simmons, Scott Winningham, Stanley Watkins, Jr. Simmons, Tim Jernigan and David Jackson.
