Dec. 10, 1945—April 27, 2015 Jim L. Milam, 69, of Crossville, passed away April 27, 2015. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Big Lick Cemetery. Rev. Pete Ullman, Rev. Sid Vebable, Rev. Mike Smathers and Rev. Walter Canter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Chad Burgess, Nick Burgess, Lynn Burgess, Ryan Clay, Keith Sadula, Brian Wyatt and Kevin Wyatt. Jim was born Dec. 10, 1945, in Oak Ridge, TN, the son of Ruel and Sue Bates Milam. He was a high school graduate of Oak Ridge High School and received his B.S. from Tennessee Tech where he was a member of the Pershing Rifles Elite Drill Team. Before retiring from the Cumberland County Department of Education, he was principal at Midway for a few years until it was closed and then went on to teach at Martin Elementary for the remainder of his teaching career. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and was also a United States Army veteran stationed in White Sands, NM, where he served as an Army investigator. He enjoyed farming and working in his shop. He is survived by his wife, Linda Burgess Milam; mother, Sue McGraw of Keller, TX; brother, Bill Milam and wife, Marilyn, of Keller, TX; sisters, Linda Cunningham and husband, Rick, and Joyce Jones and husband, Gary, all of Keller, TX, also Lena Clay and husband, Barry, of Memphis, TN, and Lola Coley and husband, Wayne, of Edmund, OK; brother- and sister-in-law, Butch and Vickie Burgess of Crossville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. The family asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice of Cumberland County or the House of Hope Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
