Jean's Story

Text size

On June 29, 2017, this world lost a gracious, intelligent and loving friend, Jean Lee Risner, 92, of Fairfield Glade, TN. Jean was born on June 24, 1925, a twin sister to her brother, Joe. Born and raised in Pineville, Bell County, KY, Jean and Joe were outstanding students, excelling in all subjects and completing their high school education one year early. After graduation, Jean married Robert Delmar Risner (a fellow schoolmate and player on the Bell County High School football team with Joe).
"Bob" and Jean both worked at TVA in Huntsville, AL, after Bob returned from three years' service in the Marine Corps, fighting in World War II. Jean was an accountant for TVA and Bob worked in construction management. In 1983, Bob and Jean retired from TVA, having built a home in Fairfield Glade where they lived the remainder of their lives. They were longtime members of Fairfield Glade Community Church. Bob passed away in the year 2000.
Jean had exceptional abilities as a contester, entering both skill and sweepstakes competitions at an early age. Her winnings were so consistent and of such value that this vocation was considered a business for tax purposes. Bob once remarked that he had lost count of the number of television sets Jean had won over the years. She won many trips and vacations, including an all-expense-paid trip to Super Bowl LXV, which she enjoyed with her niece, Lara. Entering a skill contest several years ago, Jean won his and her sports cars.
Jean treasured her many friendships, some covering a span of 70 years or more. She and Joe attended their high school reunions for many years and kept up with their schoolmates.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Perry Rodolphus Lee and Mattie Martin Lee; her twin brother, Judge Joe Lee; and her brother Perry R. Lee Jr., who was a glider pilot during World War II and died in Operation Market Garden in 1944. She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, and other extended family members, as well as a treasure-trove of good friends and neighbors, many of whom comforted and cared for dear Jean during her final months of life.
Visitation for Jean on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Hood Funeral Home, 2371 U.S. 127 in Crossville, will be from 5 to 7 p.m.; and a memorial service will be held on Monday, July 10, at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, at the corner of U.S. 25E and N. 25th St., Middlesboro, KY, at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Dale Marshall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Jean may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County Tennessee or Fairfield Glade Community Church.
