Jean S. Higgins, 91, of Crestview Hills, KY, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Mamie Spruiell, sister of the late Charles Edward (Bud) Spruiell, and wife of the late Ray Hilton Higgins.
Jean leaves behind her daughter, Jeanette Hodges (Kris); son, Ed Higgins (Cindy); grandchildren, Valerie Hodges Ramp (Tom) and Kirt Hodges (Diane); and great-grandchildren, Leah and Nate Ramp and Everly Hodges.
Jean was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, majoring in Latin and minoring in Greek and Spanish. Her post-graduate study was conducted at the University of Mexico at Mexico City and the University of Tennessee. Jean taught Spanish and Latin for many years at Fulton High School and Holston High School in Knoxville. After retiring, she became a teacher of homebound students. Her dedication to her profession and her joy of teaching endeared her to her students.
Throughout her long, rich life, she served the Lord and was a witness to all who knew her. In any situation, good or bad, she always said, "Let's pray about it." With her beautiful soprano voice, there is no doubt that she is singing among the angels.
Services where held at Immanuel United Methodist Church, in Lakeside Park, KY. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.
Middendorf Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
