James D. Welch, 75, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 16, 2016, at UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN, after a long illness. He was surrounded with love from his entire family.
He graduated from Manhattan College in 1963 receiving a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and began work for Western Electric. After his retirement he and his wife, Carol, have spent the last 26 years in Lake Tansi in Cumberland County where he was very active in the Tansi Security, Lake Tansi Lake Patrol and served on the Tansi POA Board. He was also a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus as well as a CMC volunteer. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Woiknoris) Welch; daughters, Patricia Welch and husband Donald Beane and Peggy Welch and wife Margo Carroll; sons, Michael Welch and wife Lynn Welch and John Welch and wife Carrye Welch; grandchildren, Benjamin Heinzer, Melissa Heinzer, Carolyn Welch, Alexander Welch, Samantha Welch, Liana and Zachary Dunkley, and Jacob Welch and Hope Hembree; siblings, Gale P. Welch, Louise A Ruglio and Donald Welch; cousin, Patricia Kregel; and many other loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert H. Welch.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be sent to the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church Scholarship Fund.
