Jay was a Mason, a Shriner and Past Potentate of Alhambra Shrine of Chattanooga. He loved the activities that Shriners conducted, raising monies for the Shriner Crippled Children and Burns Hospital.
He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and lover of family, friends and neighbors. He dedicated his life to helping others - especially children.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, James Harvey Sweeney Sr. and Golda Johnson Sweeney; wife, Carroll; and grandson, Curtis L. Tollett.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Sweeney Tollett (Lane); son, Steven Sweeney (Marie); daughter-in-law, Mackie; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many special friends.
