James Leslie Pankey, of Crossville, retired from this life Monday, Aug. 1, at 10:30 a.m. He was a devoted husband, father and best friend. "Listen and learn, the knowledge gained by knowing one that has gone before helps to mark the path of the person that you will become." - Coleman Pankey.
Jim was born in Peoria, IL, to the late James W. Pankey and Louise Pankey of Crossville.
Known as Jim to family and friends, he spent his life as an iron worker by trade, truck driver and local small business owner of R&R Services of Crossville. He was a Peoria, IL, police officer, a California highway patrolman and an honored veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Navy, 1949-1957.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Pankey and Louise Pankey of Crossville; brothers, Jerry Pankey, Raymond (Buck) Pankey and Ronnie Pankey; and sister, Louella Sales.
Jim is survived by his spouse, Evelyn G. Pankey; children, James L. Pankey (Kelly) of Crossville, C. Coleman Pankey (Brian) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Randall E. Pankey of Billings, MT, Kathryn (Jimmy) Sharpe of Cuba, IL, Wade (Chris) Lillard of Pioneer, OH, Leon Shanahan (Stacy) of Lavina, MT, and Teresa D. Pankey of Charlotte, NC; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Sharon Dale of Fairfield Glade, Bonnetta (Bonnie) Grable of Alabama, Valerie (Val) Elliott of Florida and Mary (Midge) Sanders of California; sister-in-law, Jodi Pankey of Illinois; and brother-in-law, Van Sales of Illinois.
