Sept. 9, 1930—Sept. 29, 2015 James W. Chapman, 85, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away Sept. 29, 2015. He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Huntington, WV, the son of Leland and Mabel Brumfield Chapman. He was retired after many years as a design draftsman with Service Machine Co. in Huntington and was also a United States Army veteran having served our country for 10 years. He was a 32nd degree mason and member of the Crescent Lodge Number 32 in Ceredo, WV, and a member of the El Hasa Shrine Club in Ashland, KY. After his retirement, he and his wife, Gayle, moved to Fairfield Glade in October of 1992 where he enjoyed playing golf and boating. He had a great talent for woodworking and carpentry, being able to design and craft most anything. He also liked to travel and most special of all was the time he spent playing cards with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. James was a member of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Chapman of Fairfield Glade, TN; son, Kent Chapman and his wife, Joleen, of Orlando, FL; daughters, Brenda Chapman of Punta Gorda, FL, Jami Craig of Lexington, SC, and Vicki Dury and her husband, Joseph, of Rutherford, NC; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leland Chapman Jr. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Bro. William Heron will officiate, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
