Gertrude "Gerti"'s Story
Gertrude "Gerti" Simon Keil, 87, of Crossville, passed from this life Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at her home in Crossville. She was born Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1930, in Trenton, NJ, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Gertrude (Hansley) Simon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Henry Keil; son, Lance Cpl. Lee E. Marsh Jr. (Vietnam Bronze Star - Combat V and 3 Purple Hearts); brothers, Leslie, Frank, Ray and Johnnie Simon; and sister, Lillian Simon.
Gerti was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother (GG), a good Christian who enjoyed church and her Bible, and who raised and cared for, along with Charlie, many dachshunds.
Gerti, a Gold Star Mother, is survived by her grandsons, James Robert (Mimi) Day of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Thomas Lee Charles (Maggie) Hanson of Island Lake, IL; great grandchildren, William "Hunter" Day and Summer Day of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; daughter, Suzanne (John) Hanson of Crossville; numerous sisters and brothers living in the Tennessee area, as well as her sister Catherine Devlin and sister-in-law Kay Simon of Trenton, NJ; and several nieces and nephews living in the New Jersey and Tennessee areas.
Donations may be made to Shriners Hospital and American Heart Association in memory of Gerti.
Funeral services for Gerti will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, beginning at noon from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Hospice and Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment beside her husband, Charlie, will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon.
