April 1, 1934—Feb. 21, 2015 Fred Dixon, 80, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 21, 2015, at Cumberland Medical Center.; He was born April 1, 1934, in Cookeville, son to the late Cordell Dixon and Dora (Grimes) Dixon. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Fred graduated from the University of Memphis. He became a college English professor and taught for more than 30 years. Later, Fred received the emeritus award from East Stroudsburg University. His passions were family, reading, teaching and sports, especially golf, tennis and baseball. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bridgman Dixon of Crossville; son, Fredrick Marcus Dixon and wife, Karen, of Huntsville, AL; step-son, Robert Lewis Myers and wife, Kathy (deceased) of Houston, TX; step-daughter, Sandra and husband, Charles, Smith of New York, NY; and brother, James Thomas and wife, Linda, Dixon of West Memphis, AR. He is also survived by six grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly, as well as a host of family and friends. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Burton. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
