Elmo James Spears Jr. was born Oct. 1, 1935, in Mount Clemens, MI, to Elmo and Susan Spears and passed away on Dec. 28, 2016. Elmo greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and making homemade wine. He was the vice president in the 1st Marine Division Association. He was an honorary black belt at Art Palmer's School of Isshinryu Karate and enjoyed helping the young karate students in the martial arts. His greatest passion was passing on the knowledge his father had taught him. Elmo was also a member of the Old Fashion Independent Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Spears; daughters, Kimberly Spears Smith (Steve) and Stacey Spears; sons, William Vermeulen and Earl Vermeulen Jr.; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Spears; father, Elmo Spears; four sisters; and his son, Danny Spears.
Service will be held Jan. 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Old Fashion Independent Baptist Church, 236 Tenth St. in Crossville, with Gary Howard conducting the service.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
