Edward Ray Dowdy, 86, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at Wyndridge Health & Rehab Center in Crossville.
He was born May 22, 1931, in Princeton, WV, son of Glenn Dowdy and Clara (Weaver) Dowdy.
Edward graduated from Greenville High School in 1949 and then graduated from Brea College in 1953. After college, he joined the Army where he proudly served during the Korean War. Thereafter, he went to Germany and then came back to Michigan where he enrolled in Michigan State University and earned his master's degree in agriculture.
In 1957, Edward met and married Barbara Elisabeth Miller Dowdy. In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by his son, John Dowdy, Jamestown, TN; daughters, Judy Hale of Crossville and Jean Norton and Heather Criscione of Florida; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and brothers, Alfred Dowdy of Nashville and James Dowdy of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Dowdy; mother, Clara (Weaver) Dowdy; and brother, Harold Dowdy.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Fairfield Glade on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Leonard Markham officiating. Interment in Crossville City Cemetery.
